"It isn't easy for me to disappoint Sen. McCain in the way that I have this morning, and I regret that," Powell, interviewed on NBC's "Meet the Press," said of his longtime friend, the Arizona senator.
"But I firmly believe that at this point in America's history, we need a president that will not just continue, even with a new face and with the changes and with some maverick aspects, who will not just continue basically the policies that we have been following in recent years," Powell said.

As a registered Democrat and Barack Obama supporter along with the millions of other Obama supporters, I know that we cannot all be wrong... But just for safe measure we should all understand that with this much Republican support that when Barack says that he can "reach across the aisle for bi-partisan support, that he is doing more than campaigning... he is telling it like it is... When Colin Powell says that Obama is the best choice for getting us out of this financial quagmire he is telling it like it is... When I tell you that this historic race transcends the race, age and gender issues I too am telling it like it is...
So let's not get it twisted, we are at a precipice... not to elect the first African American President, or the the first female Vice President... these are forgone conclusions... We are on the precipice to get our country's economy, and foreign affairs in order...
If the recovery of our economy and the restoration and maintenance of our proper place in the world is important to you, then your vote must be cast for Barack Obama...

My vote is with Obama for several reasons. Change is necessary and I do not fear the change our country needs. I also do not believe that Mrs. Palin is qualified to be a VP.
While I greatly respect Colin Powell and wish HE were running for President alongside Condoleezza Rice, I choose not to take the side of every liberal “expert” in Hollywood or politically tainted news publication. Last I looked, McCain had Joe Lieberman by his side (wasn’t he the Democratic V.P. candidate?). There is enough Democratic support for McCain to balance that weak argument.

Thank you for including me in the email. I appreciate that you are making your support of Barack Obama public. I am a Democrat and an avid supporter of Barack Obama. I was so proud to see a prominent Republican like Gen. Colin Powell endorse Obama for all the right reasons.
I was raised by a family of Republicans. Every 4 years I am forced to defend my vote with my parents, grand parents and even my little sister. Secretly, It's something that I always look forward to. Some years more successful than others. However, this year....with the exception of my sister, everyone has been quiet about their support for the GOP. I think that Barack Obama has struck a nerve (in a good way). I don't expect them to admit this to me, but I think I may have some undercover supporters. I hope for it, anyway.
When Gen. Powell endorsed yesterday, it may as well have locked my father in! In my book of people hoping to influence, he is #1 on the list. I can't wait until Thanksgiving dinner when he and I have a cigar together. He is a Military Vet and I know that he respects Gen. Powell. I expect him to whisper "Obama" in my ear.

I appreciate your blog, it has been tough for me to make up my own mind, but I watched Colin Powell yesterday and he put it in perspective. Palin was a poor choice of running mate, she is not presidential. I am not swayed by all the anti-Obama e-mails, a few of which were undoubtedly published by the Republican party. I really like Obama, but I am afraid there is still some racist sentiments in this country, especially with the older gerneration. I have been shocked several times in my office by the use of the "N" word, almost exclusively from older people. We weren't raised that way, thankfully. I agreed with Colin Powell, the job of the vice-president is to be ready to be President if something happens, as much as I like Palin's personality, when it comes right down to it, she would not be ready. We'll see what happens, but if you vote responsibly, one has to vote for Obama.
